Night Fishing, Fish Valley

November 7th 2009

Back again at Fish Valley for night session fishing. Supposedly planned this for Jason Kong to be out onto the field again, like the cantonese saying, "chong chut kong woo". But alas, the main actor decided to fall sick and FFK us. As he himself put it, it shall be known that his nickname is now FFK ( Fong Feikei Kong)

Jimmy picked me up as usual, and we headed to FV around 7-ish. Reached Semenyih and decided to buy some hong, as we were worried that no bait will be prepared. (really no bait prepared)

Reached FV and decided to have dinner at the new restaurant. I was surprised that so many people was having dinner there. Turns out that not everyone there are anglers. People from outside managed to hear about the restaurant, and almost all are families having dinner.

Jimmy and me had tomyam and kangkung belacan. While our food was being prepared, I ogled at 2 plabuks in the huge aquarium, plus some other fishes as well. The tomyam was superb. Well, it should be, because the chef is from Thailand itself, but Jimmy found it to be a little too sour for him. Michael came and chatted for a while. In my opinion, this restaurant will prosper.

It started to drizzle halfway through our dinner. Luckily Jimmy decided to bring his tent along. After dinner, we set up camp at the watergate. It didn't take very long for Jimmy to get his first fish.

I, on the other hand, had to wait for quite some time for my first (and only) fish. Was reeling in the fish when Modena and TJS came.

It was a slow night, and Jimmy's next fish was a surprising patin.

TJS was the next to get his license. A nice pak so kong.

Jimmy's escaped pacu did this.

Jeremy came by to busybody. Jimmy was busy untangling his fried beehoon, for like 20 minutes when his line moved. TJS slowly pulled the line in using his hands. A big head weighing 10kg.

Modena got his fish next, and tangling my line in the process. Near the landing, his line snapped, but fortunately, the line was still tangled with my line. Slowly reeled in, and got the pacu.

Proof that Modena is not getting old. Super power eyesight. He could see the rod tip move and got the fish.

After Modena's jelawat, no more fish landed, no more fish pull. Jimmy's chair broke ( supposedly by Jeremy, coz he moved somewhere else just before Jimmy sat and broke it XD)

And in the morning, Jimmy got his second patin.

Not many fish landed. Probably coz of the bright moon?

Update

Haven't really been updating the blog. Just came back from company trip in Bali last week. Very relaxing and fun. had a bunch of first time experiences eg first time on an airplane, experiencing earthquake, surfing ( even though I can't swim ).

Haven't been fishing much. Just a few times to Kolam Halim with Kenneth, which yielded nothing but kelis. Kenneth was tired of landing keli, so he dragged me out last night. Planned to go Eco, but changed minds at the last minute. Tried Coffee VIllage somewhere behind Eco. Damn shallow this pond. Not many ppl were fishing, didn't see anyone landing fish, and not much surface action the whole 3 hours we're there. Kenneth got 2 small soon hock, less than 500gm. 15 minutes before we left, I got a bite. Tadaaaa. A small plabuk. But kecik-kecik pun plabuk jugak kan? XD

23 August 2009

Set out early in the morning to AC's place. Reached Semenyih around 7.30 am and had breakfast at a mamak shop.

Set up at watergate, while AC took a place at the sandy cliffs beside the watergate. Greenyz came not long afterwards, followed by Jimmy shortly.

Discovered some leftover FV pellet hong when I stepped on it. Used it first while I mixed my dedak. Thought the thing won't work, so I reeled back 1 rod and used dedak mix. By this time, I had threw away the remaining FV pellet hong, and a worker picked it up into his thrash bag. Jimmy had already casted using corn beside me. The tong of corn is so smelly, not even flies will go near it.

And suddenly, the rod with the leftover hong shook. And the first fish of the day landed.

Jimmy followed not long afterwards, the beginning of his pacu fest, and his best record of fish landed in FV.

1st. It was so petrified of Jimmy that it shat

2nd. This one shat too

3rd

4th

5th. It's all different fish. Really!

TJS unhooking his first catch

TJS's first

His second. The leekoh here seemed so fond of him

A surprise haruan caught on hong

Greenyz is all smiles after waiting all morning

6th. AC decided to share the limelight

Afternoon was quite slow. A few bites here and there.

7th heaven

8th
Michael and his workers came to feed the fishes, and this triggered an army of people coming. Well, maybe not an army, about 4, plus 2 idiots who came earlier and casted near our lines. This made our rods situated barely a metre apart. Imagine when a fish bites. And that's when my second fish come. I threw further away from the others, with Jimmy much further away.

9th. Personal best record already broken

And the hero of the day fighting his 10th fish

10th

Jimmy had a few unhooked and a broken leader as well. I become photographer and tukang tangguk mostly. Other become spectators of Jimmy's heroics XD.
More to come. Plans were being made for the Merdeka weekend at FV

1st August 2009

Jimmy called abt 12pm, asking to go FV. I never say no to a fishing invite, so off we go at 12.30pm. Reached abt 1.30pm, set up at bamboo grove. Really peaceful day, cloudy and windy, and we have the whole pond to ourselves.

Jimmy wasted no time in casting his first rod, bread with a bit of minyak belangkas, while I was still fumbling over my rods. I was thinking it was going to be a good day, coz Jimmy got his first catch of the day. A lampam on the bread. But I thought wrongly. No bites for the whole afternoon even though Jimmy got another lampam. And until we moved to the watergates/hills, only 1 decent fish landed among all anglers there.

We moved around 5.30-ish. Jimmy took the jetty while I set up at the sandy hills. This time, borrowed Jimmy's specially mixed hong. And while I was 'pretending' busy by walking around, my bell buat bising!

Jimmy's special bait really works

Jeremy asked me to get another, so I said hopefully. And within minutes of casting ( with Jimmy's special hong again ), my bell rang again. Didn't manage to get the fish as it lucut. By this time, TJS already caught a lampam, Jeremy with 2 lampams and Bony with none. And TJS spree started.

The first of 3 leekoh

Jimmy doesn't want to be left out

Bony finally got his fish as the closing time draw close

Second leekoh

Jimmy with a huge rohu (special bait mesti kena maa)

Double hook up at the last cast
Still, without opening the watergates, fishes don't bite, with the exception of Jimmy's and my fish.

HM Eco Resort, Putrajaya 25 July 2009

Reached about 2.30pm. Nice scenery, clean place, ample facilities.

Fished until 8pm. Sadly, no fishes landed. Only 2 hook ups amongst us. No pictures as there were no fishes XD. In my opinion, fishes hasn't start to bite yet, even though the pond was opened since March. Not many landed fish during the 5 hours we were there. Come to think of it, I haven't landed any fish in a long time. Keli in Kolam Halim isn't counted. Confirm can get keli using worms there.

Night Fishing, Fish Valley 26 June 2009

A not so satisfying trip for me, in terms of fishing. Only had 1 fish until I leave at abt 10am.

A preview of the durian buffet next week. A basket of durians to wallop while waiting for the fishes to bite. And we waited quite some time for the first fish to bite.

Jimmy with the first fish of the night (second in fact. Azizi got the first)

Datin with a big rohu

Jimmy with a huge ass rohu, from bamboo grove

At about 3 am, we separated to fish at different spots. Jimmy and Datin went to bamboo groves, Modena and Nelson went to TJS Sprint. Jimmy initial scouting at bamboo groves before moving there with Datin earned him a pacu. Barely casted and was just putting it at the rod holder, the pacu hits. Modena got about 7 hook-ups, and landed 5 at TJS sprint. Me, Bang Patin and Azizi stayed at the water gate, and I got a rohu, while Bang Patin and Azizi got none.

At about 6am, I moved to bamboo groves, but still get no fish. Lost a float while I wasn't paying attention. A fish got to it, quite big since it opened my clip. It was still hooked when I got to my rod, the rod was bent while I tried to bring the fish up but it got away. Probebly not hooked firmly.

Michael came at about 8am, brought some small durians, and found a durian worm which Jimmy managed to hook a pacu with. Lost the pacu when it was near to the banks.

Night Fishing, Fish Valley 5 June 2009

[Warning: Page may load slow coz of the number of pics]

Reached FV at abt 9.30pm, courtesy of Jimmy and Datin (yet again) who picked me up along the way. Jeremy just reached too before us with his friends ( I only remember Patrick and his son Abel, sorry to those I forgot ) and iPlay. We headed straight for the watergate, and without wasting time, booked our "strategic spots". Modena and his friend Nelson reached not long after we casted.

First fish of the night at abt 10.30pm

My first of the night

Abel with the first of his 3 fishes

My second of the night

Was accused of letting the first fish go without unhooking due to the same size of the fish. Haha.

Same fish different angle

Ruby the rohu, as christened by modena

Patrick. Wasn't sure how many he got as I seldom go to the other side of the pond

TJS came abt 12am, and his first fish, Ruby???

Abel again

By this time, Greenyz has already arrived with ChefWilson and started fishing.

Datin's first fish after a long long wait. Ruby again?? So identical in terms of size

Jeremy was the center of attention at this time, as he has yet to land a fish. And he didn't land any until he went back. It's just one of the days again, and we were making fun of him all night long.

Bite rate was low, possibly due to the almost full moon, shining so brightly.

Close up of the moon, looking full here

Lee koh emas

Some scenery shots as the morning breaks.

2.5kg patin, hooked near the tree stump

Nelson

This bugger cut my finger with its sharp belly fin

modena trying not to smile

Must pretend busy then only get fish XD

Packed and left FV at abt 1pm as the weather was getting unbearably hot, even with shade from the tent Jimmy and Datin brought. Saw a guy fighting with a plabuk at Apek Bamboo Grove, but the line broke after some time. Saw a plabuk landed at TJS sprint, when a group of ppl suddenly appeared from no where.
Next group visit to FV would be in July, for the durian fest. Can't wait.
